Wow! It´s been over a month..
Wow! It's been over a month since I updated the Best Buy Blog (B3). It is not because there have been a shortage of Best Buys. It is because I have been busy busy busy busy (bN)
What prompted this entry was that I saw in our local newspaper, KALEVA, which has been trying to run a Best Buy occasional item - that buying Cheese at Euro 4.70 was a Best Buy. Those who read this blog KNOW that that is balderdash.
Good cheese is available from Euro 3.69 to Euro 3.99 at various locations as a regular price!
During this one month, those who called me or emailed me, got their info directly from me. We had great shopping days when the SPAR shops at Kello and at Zeppelin closed down.
I am also thankful to people, like Ilari, who called in to tell me what were the Best Buys over this period of time.
At the end of May, Kannan drove in from Rauma and we went on a grand shopping spree - a new suit, a blazer, some shirts - and the damage, Euro 5! Location: The Pentecostal Church Charity Shop.
I had a call from a Indian yesterday saying he desperately needed a coat for a meeting next Wednesday. Monday will be shopping day. A few minutes later I got a call from yet another Indian telling me how he had spent Rs. 7000 (Euro 150) on a suit and was astounded to hear you get stuff at this Euro 1 and 5. So, I have yet another customer for the Charity shop!
The Best Buys of the last month have been at Cassa, Prisma near the University, the Säästökauppas at Kaijonharju and Jukolankuja, Lidl, the KKK-Markets situated all around the city, Citymarket and even Euromarket. Last week, when Red Paprikas were over Euro 3 at the wholesale markets, Euromarket was selling Dutch Red Paprikas at just Euro 1.99.
(I did learn one important fact the other day - I found that tomatoes were just Euro 0.99 in the Prisma at the University BUT NOT at the other 2 Prismas in the City. So if you find a Best Buy in your locality, do let me know as these finds may be quite unique!)
This weekend, the KKK-Markets have been selling excellent tomatoes at just Euro 0.99 whereas even in the wholesale markets the price has been over Euro 2.50. Other Best Buys at this shop were Cucumbers and Artic Salad.
All I can advise you is to follow the advice given in our book "Handbook for Survival in Finland" and you will certainly survive better than those who are going under with the huge increase in prices that have accompanied the Euroisation of Finland.
Many of you have written to me about finding houses. If you have a house to sell or want to buy a house, do let me know as I have lots of foreigners on both sides of the column. Even those wanting reliable tenants for their flats or houses, please contact me so that I can link you with others who desperately need to find places to live.
Best Buys are found every single day, so do not think that just because I do not update this blog there are no best buys.
